Capturing lessons learned is intended to improve quality by aiming to ensure that that effective practices, as well as areas for improvement from the project, are identified to enhance the results of future projects.

This helps avoid “reinventing the wheel” and contributes to continuous improvement.

In order to add as much value as possible to the people and the organisation, it is good practice to capture and document lessons learned during the project and summarise them at the end of the project. There will be a number of good opportunities to gather this information during a project, (e.g. when reaching a key milestone or at the end of a workstream).
